"We have two dogs, Toby and Tilly who, in their earlier years, were treated by other vets, but since changing to Small Friends we have found the care and service they provide second to none. Our much loved Toby became sick with a disease called Protein Losing Enteropathy two and a half years ago and we credit Dr Matt and the team at Small Friends with saving his life. Toby is now in remission and we will be forever grateful for the very personal care and support the Small Friends team gave us during what was a very difficult time when Toby was initially so very sick. Thank you just doesn't seem adequate for what they've done for all of us, and in fact are still doing."

"My two furbabies Gypsy and Brodie go to Small Friends. They love the pats and cuddles and attention they get every time they are there. We wouldn’t take them anywhere else and tell anyone looking for a caring and professional vet service to go to Small Friends."

"Around five years ago I was looking for a new vet practice. I had adopted a number of special needs animals and was seeking a practice that could assist me in providing them with the particular care they required.  Small Friends was recommended to me by a friend and that one recommendation has changed many lives. The incredible Small Friends team has now taken care of sixteen of my adopted and fostered cats and dogs and there will of course be many more in the future.  I certainly couldn't do what I do for old and sick rescue animals without such a supportive veterinary team.

The scope of services provided to my animals and the range of issues dealt with over the years is virtually endless - dentals, desexing, weight management, allergy treatments, neurological conditions, infections, intestinal issues, kidney disease, diabetes, vaccinations, hernia repair, biopsies, blood tests, DNA testing, surgery to remove various lumps and bumps and other cancer-damaged body parts, plus so much more for many animals with a significant range of medical issues.  Time and again the Small Friends team has provided expert care and ensured quality of life for all my animals and peace of mind for me.

I never hesitate in recommending Small Friends to anyone looking for a vet practice and when I’m asked what is it that makes the Small Friends team so special, the answer is easy - Matt, Melissa, Zoe and the fabulous team of vet nurses consistently offer professional service with genuine care and a passion for helping and healing animals.  The fact they do it at such competitive rates is just an added bonus!  I am always greeted with a friendly smile at the door, my little ones are greeted with pats and we are always treated with respect.  I always receive honest advice, all available options are discussed and whatever decision I make is supported. The team at Small Friends has helped me welcome so many cats and dogs into my home and they have also been there when I have had to say goodbye to many little ones.  That is always the hardest moment for anyone who shares their life with an animal, but the genuine compassion shown by the Small Friends team during these difficult times always makes the experience easier to manage.

I could keep going forever, but in short, I trust the Small Friends team with the most valuable things in my world – the lives of my furkids."

"Over the years, the team at Small Friends have given generously of their time and knowledge to my many companion cats and I. When confronted by unusual and puzzling situations, I receive calm and helpful information from the first phone call. I then have the benefit of up to date treatments from Dr's Matt, Melissa and Zoe. There is genuine empathy at this clinic and I'm very grateful for all they have done for my feline family and I."

"Thank you for all your help with Chloe. We are ever grateful for the 'round the clock' attention that she received from you. Although we lost her in the end, we know that we all gave it our very best. Having a team that had genuine concern for her well being made it easier. We can't really express how much better we felt having you all by us as we went through Chloe's last days. We think you are the best."

"We have been visiting the Small Friends Veterinary Hospital with our pets Cortez and Lunar since 2010. Drs Matt, Melissa and Zoe and the Small Friends team always have a smile, a kind word (and most importantly) a scratch for our small friends when they visit. Our dog suffers from a serious illness and their skill, attention and care has helped him immeasurably. We very much appreciate the professionalism and compassion they have always shown us. You can trust them with your small friends!"

"We have shared our homes with a number of cats over the past twenty or so years, and over that time we've had a variety of experiences with vet hospitals. In some instances we felt the focus of the services provided was all about maximising the $$$, rather than our four-legged feline family members. We've never had the feeling with Small Friends. Toby and Tina remain calm and relaxed when being examined by Dr Matt, no matter where Dr Matt has stuck the thermometer!!!"
Paul and Alison Mornement

"With 3 small dogs, we have had vast experience with vets over the years. However since Small Friends opened we feel the quality and continuity of care for our dogs has improved immensely. In particular we appreciate the continuing personalized service that Matt and his staff provide at all times and we highly recommend Small Friends to everybody with a small friend in their family."
Kathie and Garry Butt

"My girls and I love going to Small Friends to visit Dr Matt because not only are our pets looked after with absolute VIP treatment but we are made welcome too. A friendly, caring environment is offered where you can feel totally at ease and know your small friends are getting the best care possible. We highly recommend the professional service and friendly staff at Small Friends."

"We love bringing Flynn to see Dr. Matt and his wonderful team. Flynn really loves his visits, not only because Dr. Matt gives him treats but also because Dr. Matt has someone who looks just like Flynn, Gerald. Dr. Matt is extremely gentle and kind towards Flynn and that is what we love most about visiting Small Friends. We know that every time Flynn needs to visit, he is in very capable hands."
Stuart and Sarah Gibbs

"We have been taking Tess to Small Friends since she was 8 weeks old. 3 years have passed and Dr Matt and his team have happily helped Tess with Puppy classes, vaccinations and a few illnesses along the way. Tess still loves going there; she even tries to pull her way in when passing by on our morning walk. I couldn't imagine taking her anywhere else."

After Hours Emergencies

What to do when Small Friends Veterinary Hospital is closed and you need a vet? There are two options. Call Canberra Veterinary Emergency Service (CVES) on 6225 7257. CVES is located at 21 Crinigan Circle in Gungahlin. Alternatively, you can call the Animal Emergency Centre Canberra (AECC) on 6280 6344. You will find the AECC at 15/2 Yallourn Street Fyshwick. Both CVES and the AECC will care for your small friend whilst we are closed and refer your small friend back to Small Friends Veterinary Hospital when we open in the morning. Should your small friend require further treatment or overnight care, this can be provided by Small Friends Veterinary Hospital.
