Gerald's Jive - Fifth Edition

How about those grass hoppers! They are playing havoc with Mummy and Daddy's plants but I am so enjoying them.

I love them for morning and afternoon tea, and as an after dinner treat. The only curly part is catching them. It takes a great deal of skill. They may see me coming from in front, behind and from the sides, with their five beady eyes, but my vision is perfect (and my eyes are superbly protected by my eyebrows I might add). They may sense me coming with their antennae feelers, but I've got feelers too - my whiskers, which help me find them however camouflaged they might be in the grass, so they have no advantage there. They may have strong little muscular legs, but I've got very muscular legs, and I do a very good leap myself. But the greatest thing I have on my side is my doggedness. I am more than willing to continue chasing them for as long as it takes for me to catch them and eat them (I win), or they continue jumping away from me, until they are out of the yard (I win on behalf of Mummy and Daddy).

As there are so many in the garden, I don't have to go long without a grasshopper snack. Their crunchy little exoskeleton, is right up there with flies for us dogs. Once you have caught them safely in your mouth, chomp (crunch), chomp (crunch), lip-smack, swallow, lip-smack, and aahh. What a delicacy. We dogs are really starting to take them for granted though, there are just so many of them. At my doggy-grandparent's farm, I've seen my cousins Lily and Jewel, just let them leap on by…I mean whoever thought we would become so blasé?

Anyway, winter is on its way so they will probably move on soon - must go out and make the most of them while I can.

Until next time,

Gerald
