Gerald's Jive - Third EditionArt ... Wasn't the rain we had recently lovely? Humans love the rain but they don't really understand the true pleasure rain can bring. Rain gives me the excuse to explore my love for abstract art. Please let me explain. The rain softens my "paint palette" just enough to enable scratching my various "brushes" into the colour and work my artistic magic all over the different "canvases" I can find. Generally I use just the one colour but I love the different tones and shades I can achieve with this one colour. During my short life so far I have been able to perfect several techniques and effects, which I will share with you now. Effect 1 – I call it 'the panic' is achieved by scratching my front paws in any patch of mud I can find in the garden and dashing across the patio. Effect 2– I call it 'the drain' is achieved by first scratching about in a patch of lawn just on the edge of the patio, softening the mud and really creating a great colour and texture. Then I take a few steps back from this "paint palette" and run through it with all paws, and continue to run in circles around the outdoor setting until the colour is worked from my paws. Effect 3– I call it 'the hobo' is achieved by eating mud for a while and then dragging my beard, as I walk across the patio. I enjoy allowing all the energy I have inside me, from not being able to go for a walk with my Mummy due to this rain, to be released in this creative way. My favourite work though is that which is made when my Mummy and Daddy get home after being out. You see "patio" is not the only surface I work with. I also really enjoy the effect of my natural paint on denim, stockings, woollen "dry clean only" garments, basically any clothing my parents wear when they go out on these rainy weekends. Just being able to run from my kennel though the last bit of mud (that is left in that patch I created earlier on the edge of the lawn) and jump up against my parents' legs is pure delight. My front two paws and beard achieve my most emotive art - the ultimate expression of happiness and pleasure. I love to see them again. It is a gift I know…not all of us are as creative. I am just pleased I can share this talent in the artworks I give and leave for my parents on these rainy days. Until next time, Gerald » More Gerald's Jive |
