About Dr Hao
and her small friends Poppy, Kiki and Gaba

Dr Hao Not many people can say with that they really enjoy their job, but I do! Being a vet not only means that I get to fulfill my childhood dream of working with animals but also means that no two days are ever the same. I enjoy the challenge of dealing with different cases everyday and knowing, as a vet, I make a real difference to the quality of lives of our small friends. I also love getting to know our small friends, hearing about their stories and having a good old chat to their human parents. I think most human doctors don’t tend to enjoy the same level of ease and comfort that we vets have with our clients. I really treasure the strong relationships forged with our clients and their small friends.

Professionally I have a keen interest in small animal internal medicine and exotic pets (courtesy of my own less than conventional pets) and am delighted to be able to get lots of hands on experience in ultrasonography with the new ultrasound machine at Small Friends Veterinary Hospital.

Currently I have three small friends: two guinea pigs, Poppy and Kiki, and one rainbow lorikeet, Gaba.  Poppy and Kiki have rowdy guinea pig parties and get spoilt with freshly cut grass daily. Gaba, as the youngest and most talented child, is completely ruined and mollycoddled. He can say ‘hello’, ‘come’, ‘come here’, Gaba, makes a range of interesting sounds and is working very hard on increasing his vocabulary. Eventually I am looking into expanding my extended family, so watch this space!

Outside of vet, I have a monstrous appetite for books. There is nothing better than settling down with a good book on a lazy afternoon and within minutes I will be transported to another world. I am also an obsessive-compulsive when it comes to food and can spend days planning out imaginary feasts. Travelling is another passion of mine and I would consider a year wasted unless a trip to an exotic destination had been planned, booked and scrutinized to the minutest detail.
